Free AEO Checker: can AI search crawlers read your website?

Paste a page address and find out whether ChatGPT search, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s crawlers can reach it, read it and cite it. You get a score out of 100, a fix list in plain English and who should do each fix. It takes about a minute and you do not need an account.

What is AEO, and why a technical check first?

AEO (answer engine optimization) means making your content easy for AI answer engines to find, understand and cite. Good content and strong mentions matter most, but they are wasted if something technical keeps the crawler out. A firewall that refuses the bot, a robots.txt rule that blocks the wrong crawler, or text that only appears after JavaScript runs can each keep a page out of AI answers. This checker finds those barriers.

The eight checks, in order of how much they hurt

1. Search crawler policy

Does robots.txt let OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Googlebot in?

2. Training policy

Which bots may use your content for model training. A business choice, not an error.

3. Actual server response

Your firewall or CDN can refuse a bot that robots.txt allows. We request the page as each bot.

4. Rendered-content test

How much of your text is in the first HTML, because most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript.

5. Discovery and indexability

Sitemap, canonical URL, noindex and snippet limits.

6. Fetch reliability

Speed, redirects and failures across repeated fetches.

7. Accurate schema

JSON-LD that matches what visitors can actually see.

8. llms.txt

Optional. Checked last, because the evidence for its benefit is thin.

How to read your score

  • 85 and above, Ready: crawlers can reach and read the page.
  • 60 to 84, Needs work: reachable, but issues reduce how reliably it can be used.
  • Below 60, At risk: several checks failed.
  • Capped at 49: if any search crawler is blocked or refused, nothing else can lift the score.

The score is our own way of ranking fixes. It is not an official metric from Google or any AI company, and a high score does not guarantee you will be cited.

Free account: whole-website audits

Anyone can check a single page. With a free DigiMoneyBlogger account you can also audit a whole website (pages sampled from your sitemap), see the issues that repeat across pages, save your scans, track your score over time, tick off fixes and download Word reports. Your scans are private to you and you can delete them, or your account, at any time.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AEO Checker really free?

Yes. Checking a single page costs nothing and needs no account. A free DigiMoneyBlogger account adds whole-website audits, saved history and Word reports.

Will blocking GPTBot hide my site from ChatGPT search?

OpenAI documents separate crawlers: OAI-SearchBot for search results and GPTBot for training. You can block GPTBot and still allow OAI-SearchBot, which is why the checker treats them separately.

Does a high score mean AI assistants will cite my site?

No. The score covers technical barriers only. Citations also depend on content quality, authority and mentions elsewhere.

Do you keep the pages you test?

No. We fetch only public pages and never keep their content. Anonymous checks are not saved at all.

Can it check a whole website?

Yes, with a free DigiMoneyBlogger account. Visitors check one page at a time. Signed-in members can run a whole-website audit: the tool reads your sitemap, samples pages from each section, audits each one and shows the issues that repeat across pages.
